Role overview

We are looking for a Brand Strategist who can help businesses become the clear choice in their market.

This role focuses on understanding businesses, their customers, competitors, and opportunities, then turning those insights into clear strategic direction. You will help shape how businesses position themselves, communicate their value, differentiate from competitors, and build trust with the people they want to reach.

Brand strategy influences far more than visual identity. It affects websites, marketing campaigns, content, customer experience, sales conversations, and how a business is perceived in the market. Your role is to help create alignment between business goals, customer expectations, and execution across digital channels.

You will work closely with business owners, designers, developers, marketers, and project managers throughout the lifecycle of a project. Rather than creating strategy in isolation, you will help guide decisions that impact real deliverables and real business outcomes.

We are looking for someone who can think critically, communicate clearly, and quickly identify opportunities that help businesses strengthen their position and improve how they present themselves online.

What you'll be working on

Our clients span a variety of industries, business models, and growth stages. Some businesses need help clarifying their positioning. Others need stronger messaging, a more focused website, or better alignment between their brand and marketing efforts.

Your work will involve researching businesses, understanding customer behavior, evaluating competitors, identifying communication gaps, and developing strategic recommendations that help guide execution.

You will contribute to projects involving brand development, website planning, content strategy, SEO initiatives, marketing campaigns, and long term business growth efforts.

The goal is always the same: helping businesses communicate more effectively and become a stronger choice within their market.

Core responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

• Conducting market and competitor research

• Analyzing customer behavior, motivations, and decision making patterns

• Leading discovery sessions and strategic discussions

• Identifying positioning opportunities and communication gaps

• Developing positioning statements and messaging frameworks

• Creating value propositions and key messaging systems

• Defining voice and tone recommendations

• Supporting website structure and content planning

• Reviewing websites and marketing materials for strategic alignment

• Contributing to content, SEO, and marketing initiatives

• Creating strategic recommendations backed by research and reasoning

• Documenting findings in a clear and organized manner

• Supporting project teams throughout implementation

• Helping maintain consistency across multiple client touchpoints

How strategy fits into our work

We believe strategy should support execution.

The purpose of strategy is not to create lengthy presentations or documentation. Its purpose is to help teams make better decisions. Strong strategy creates clarity, reduces uncertainty, and provides direction that helps projects move forward with confidence.

You will often work alongside designers, developers, SEO specialists, marketers, and project managers. Your recommendations should help improve the quality of decisions being made throughout the project rather than exist as a separate deliverable.

The strongest candidates understand how strategic thinking influences real business outcomes and can connect research directly to action.

Strategic thinking expectations

We are looking for someone who can evaluate businesses objectively and identify opportunities that others may overlook.

You should be able to recognize weak positioning, unclear messaging, inconsistent communication, and missed opportunities within a market. More importantly, you should be able to explain why those issues exist and recommend practical solutions.

Strong candidates are naturally curious, ask thoughtful questions, and enjoy understanding how businesses operate, compete, and grow.

You should be comfortable forming opinions, supporting them with evidence, and communicating recommendations clearly to both internal teams and clients.

Team collaboration

This role is highly collaborative.

You will work closely with designers, developers, marketers, SEO specialists, project managers, and business owners throughout projects.

You should be comfortable:

• Participating in discovery and planning discussions

• Presenting strategic recommendations

• Collaborating with creative and technical teams

• Reviewing work for alignment with project goals

• Providing constructive feedback

• Helping teams make informed decisions

• Contributing throughout multiple stages of a project

Strong communication skills are essential because much of this role involves helping others understand and apply strategic direction.

Skills and experience

We are looking for candidates with strong strategic thinking and communication abilities.

Required skills:

• Brand positioning

• Messaging development

• Market research

• Competitor analysis

• Customer research

• Strategic communication

• Business analysis

• Strong written and verbal communication

• Organization and documentation

• Research synthesis

• Presentation development

‍

Nice to have:

• Buyer psychology

• Content strategy

• Website planning

• Workshop facilitation

• Copywriting and messaging systems

The ability to simplify complex ideas into clear recommendations is especially valuable.

Problem solving and decision making

Many of the businesses we work with are facing challenges that do not have obvious answers.

You should be comfortable working through ambiguity, identifying root causes, and developing recommendations that balance customer needs, business goals, and market realities.

You will regularly be asked to evaluate situations where information is incomplete and provide direction that helps move projects forward.

We value thoughtful decision making over assumptions and opinions that are not supported by research or reasoning.

Organization and workflow

You will often contribute to multiple projects at the same time.

Strong organization is important for keeping research, findings, documentation, and recommendations structured and accessible.

You should be comfortable:

• Managing multiple priorities

• Meeting deadlines consistently

• Tracking project progress

• Maintaining organized documentation

• Communicating status updates clearly

• Balancing strategic depth with project timelines

• Working independently when needed

Understanding digital execution

While this is a strategy focused role, an understanding of digital execution is important.

You should understand how strategic decisions influence websites, SEO, content, marketing campaigns, and customer experience.

Helpful knowledge includes:

• Website structure and user journeys

• SEO fundamentals

• Content strategy

• Conversion principles

• Marketing campaigns

• Digital customer experiences

• Analytics and performance measurement

• Cross functional project workflows

You do not need to execute all of these disciplines, but you should understand how they connect together.

What success looks like

Success in this role is measured by the quality of thinking, clarity of communication, and usefulness of the direction you provide.

Strong performance includes:

• Delivering thoughtful recommendations

• Providing clear strategic direction

• Identifying opportunities that improve business outcomes

• Helping teams make better decisions

• Contributing positively to project execution

• Communicating effectively with clients and team members

• Maintaining consistency across projects

• Producing organized and actionable work

Growth opportunities

As you develop within the role, you will have opportunities to take ownership of larger projects, contribute to higher level strategic initiatives, and play a greater role in shaping client direction.

We value people who take initiative, contribute ideas, improve processes, and actively help raise the quality of work across the agency.

Strong strategic thinkers naturally become trusted advisors both internally and externally, and we encourage that growth.

Working with us

We are a lean digital agency that believes great work comes from clear thinking, strong execution, and close collaboration.

Our work combines branding, websites, SEO, and marketing into a connected system designed to help businesses grow. Strategy plays an important role in creating alignment across these areas and helping clients make better decisions.

We value ownership, curiosity, accountability, and practical thinking. We care less about titles and processes and more about helping clients solve meaningful problems and achieve measurable progress.
